Don and Joy's Cats, past and present
We have had indoor cats for many years, with numbers as high as nine, and currently (Aug, 2002) have 4. Here are some photos of past and present feline members of our family:
Sable is a Siamese mix found in the shopping center where our pet shop is located. She had suffered some sort of trauma, possibly automobile related. A playful and mellow cat. 1995-
|
 Ashley is a Somali, bred
at Carquinez cattery in Benicia. We saw her at a cat show in Sacramento,
and just couldn't resist. We thought we had a cat-safe house, but Ashley
has shown us our defects - such things as needing to keep paper towels in
cat-proof cabinets, etc. 1993-
|
 Bree (Bree-Anne) is a Manx (tail-less)
cat that was rescued as a juvenile from a semi-feral existence. She
is soft as a bunny and very loving. 1992-
|
Mutsy was taken on when a neighbor moved, and we agreed the move would not have been good for her. She spent the first 10 years as an outside cat, and is not sociable with the other cats, but she does like Joy. 1990-
|
Ziggy was the fat cat of the house. About
18 lbs on a 10-lb frame. He was not inactive, just conserved energy
very well. He was diabetic, but all attempts to take weight off him
without unduly depriving the others failed. His condition was
controlled well medicinally for several years, but ultimately made him one of our shortest-lived cats. 1987-1998
|
Tugger was a Persian - cross male.He was Joy's teddy-bear, and was dominant among our cats. 1986-2002
|
Zack was Misha's son, and was our biggest scaredy-cat. Visitors to our home were unlikely to ever see him, except by
accident. 1984-2000
|
Shasta was a Turkish Angora-cross female. She was probably the most passive of our cats, but she greatly loved to be rubbed and petted. At 19, she holds the longevity record here so far. 1983-2002
|
Misha was a small Maine Coon, obtained from a veterinarian in Maine who had rescued her, she came to us as a "male" kitten in 1982. We didn't check, and one-day noticed that "he" was in heat! Quite a shock. With the Maine Coon britches you really have to pin them down to check. 1982-1998
|
 Merlin was a Balinese-cross male.He had the most talkative. Siamese-type voice. 1982-2000
